Piper's Pale Ale
Piper’s Pale Ale has a deep copper hue and a medium body that bursts with ample Pacific Northwest hop character. Crafted with roasted caramel malt and Willamette hops, Piper’s Pale Ale pours with a finely beaded amber coloured head. With an elegantly crisp flavour and a dry fruity hop finish, Piper’s has become the Island’s favourite Northwest Pale Ale.
What’s in a name?
Piper Richardson: Rich with tradition, this Pipers Pale Ale was first brewed in 1987, but the history dates back to the First World War. Piper’s Pale Ale was named after a local war hero who fought in the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Piper Richardson braved the trenches and began to play his bagpipes, inspiring the troops into battle with fury and determination. After assisting a wounded comrade back to safety and escorting enemy prisoners, he realized he had left his pipes behind and was lost in action while attempting to retrieve them. Awarded a Victoria Cross for his act of bravery, we were inspired by his dedication. In his memory, we salute his bravery and toast in his honour.
Piper Richardson's bagpipes were retrieved from battle and are currently on display in the BC Parliament Building's foyer in Victoria, British Columbia. For more info: http://www.explorevancouverisland.com/Parliament_Buildings_Victoria_BC.htm
